Thank you for trusting Twin Oaks Animal Hospital with your pet’s care! Most pets will undergo at least one surgery in their lifetime. We understand how stressful this event can be for pets and pet owners. Dr. Weinberg performs many soft tissue procedures, including spays and neuters, mass removals, abdominal exploratory, and bladder stone removal. In the event your pet needs a more complex procedure, we will work with you to find a specialist at one of the referral centers.

Before surgery, your pet will be examined by the doctor. If not done earlier, we can take a blood sample and check your pet for signs of kidney or liver disease. Intravenous (IV) fluids are started before surgery and continue through recovery to keep your pet’s blood pressure stable during surgery. Your pet will be given injections of pain medication before the procedure, and then as needed until they can take oral pain relievers. During surgery, your pet’s heart rate, temperature, and oxygen levels will be monitored for their safety. Our technician will stay with your pet during recovery until he or she is fully awake. Your pet will stay with us for a few hours until recovered enough to go home. Critically ill patients will be referred to an emergency hospital for monitoring overnight. We will send home pain relievers, and other items as necessary to ensure your pet’s rapid recovery.
